University of Hawaii at Manoa Dance Studio

This project provided a new dance studio at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The building features a large solar photovoltaic system for on-site generation as well as a large solar water heating system. Other building features included extensive use of skylights and windows for daylighting, electrically operated windows, daylight sensing and motion controls in small offices, classrooms, and the dance studio. The air conditioning system was a modular system that was designed to give the users the most flexibility. The dancers demand a warm environment to prevent injuries so the building was designed to provide air conditioning as a back up to the natural ventilation.
