This project involved design and construction improvements to the Kalanimoku Building that were needed to create a departmental operating center (also known as an emergency operating center) that can accommodate State Emergency Response Teams (SERTs) activated for a State proclaimed “natural disaster event,” such as: unusually heavy rainstorms; major floods; large scale landslides; reservoir/dam failures; widespread fires; tsunami/tidal waves; volcanic eruptions; and/or earthquakes. This was accomplished by protecting or improving existing building conditions through the renovation of selected conference rooms and other designated areas within the building for use by the SERTs during the performance of their designated “Emergency Support Functions (ESFs).”
